Kitchen Desk Tutorial

Well, I am officially in love with this desk.  I especially love that we made it from reclaimed pieces!  The cabinet we bought farm-fresh from Junkstock and the wood is actually pieces of the waterbed frame that came with our house.  You can buy similar base cabinets from Lowes, Home Depot, etc.  There are also tutorials online to build your own.  I encourage you to find reclaimed pieces for the top, but they can also be purchased at the lumber yard. When buying boards you have the luxury of getting them cut to fit, which would have saved us some of the hassle in step two.

I looked and looked online for a small desk with our without a hutch to put in our space, but they were either too big, too expensive, or too cheaply made. I even looked at buying a new base cabinet to use, but they were too wide and too expensive.  At Junkstock we were on the hunt for a 36 inch wide desk or a small base cabinet.  Luckily we found the perfect little cabinet from Weston Primitive Co. You can visit their Facebook page by clicking here!

So, now we have a cabinet, but we needed a topper piece to act as the workstation.  Having a cute used cabinet was not good enough for us, we wanted to find some wood we could reuse for the top.  We had some nice wide boards from an old waterbed frame we had dismantled, and figured they would make a great work surface for our desk.  So, not only is the cabinet used and farmfresh, the wood top is reclaimed. The shelf above the desk is also from the bed frame.

I have to admit, our craftsmanship is good, but our tutorial making is a bit shoddy.  But, here it goes anyway: a step-by-step for making your own kitchen desk.

JUNKSTOCK!!

Tim and I recently attended the third annual Junkstock Festival, whose slogan is Peace. Love. Junk.  It is a three day sale at an old Dairy farm in West Omaha with live music, food trucks, and hundreds or vendors selling anything and everything vintage, antique, rustic, rusty, junky, architectural, and awesome. We loved it!

Master bedroom on a (teeny) tiny budget!

Tim and I finally finished our bedroom! And, we did it the way we do a lot of things. No, not fast and dirty. On the cheap! Our only expenses were screws for the bedframe, paint and painting supplies, and bedding. There were things that we would have liked to change, but were going to be expensive, we decided to work with.

We made a headboard!

I have looked at about 1000 diy headboards on Pinterest.  Maybe I've become pseudo-obsessed. Headboards just fancy up the bed!  Tim and I have been sleeping on a metal bedframe without a headboard for a long time.  Back before we were married, Tim made me a shoddy (sorry Tim) "upholstered" headboard.  This time, together we made a beautiful, re-purposed, rustic headboard.  Click read more to see how it's done.

Liz's Mint-to-Be Bridal Shower Brunch, part three: I heart washi tape

Like I mentioned before, washi tape is the shiz.  I used it on the centerpieces for the brunch, as seen here! And, as promised, here are more easy ways to use washi tape at your next get together!

For Liz's bridal shower brunch, I purchased washi tape from Koyal Wholesale (www.koyalwholesale.com). They have lots of styles and patterns to choose from.  Prices are reasonable too! I love washi tape for personalizing a party and bringing together the theme/color scheme. See how I used it to do just that, after the jump.

Starting the Master Bedroom Redo

Well, it looks like our master bedroom is the next room we're going to be tackling.  From the wallpaper to the brassy cabinet hardware, it needs it. Actually, we might leave the gold looking goodness.

As with any project, I have painstakingly planned out our new bedroom on Pinterest. You can view my Master Bedroom board by clicking here. A few inspiration pics are after the jump!

Liz's Mint-To-Be Bridal Shower Brunch - Part one: gorgeous diy centerpieces

Man, who doesn't love a mason jar? Am I right?!  Honestly, I was starting to get sick of them. I mean, I used them in our wedding decor almost three years ago! At that time they were just starting to be popular, and since then, the mason jar has exploded onto every decorating, eco-crafting, and diy scene out there. Here are two things I love about using mason jars.

1. You can pick them up used at garage sales, flea markets, and thrift stores on the cheap.  That's what we did to get some for our wedding; and I seriously love scouring for used pieces.
2. You can get away with using other jars similar in size and shape. I used about every brand of canning jar out there, plus other jars from spaghetti sauce, salsa, etc.  The best place to get sweet jars is Classico brand pasta sauce. They are a cool shape and are stamped with ATLAS MASON. So, so awesome.

how to: A Plate (and clock) Wall Display

I am so excited to show this quick little how-to that creates BIG impact! I've had the idea to do a wall display with plates for quite a while.  When Tim and I were planning our wedding, I decided I wanted to ditch the paper dessert plates, and go with mis-matched china that we picked up at garage sales and thrift stores. We ended up with a lot of plates, some of which I used in this project. I love that I can use things from our wedding to decorate our home. You can use any plates from a collection you have, or have fun picking them up from flea markets, etc, like we did! You could even display other things besides plates.
